A compilation dedicated to the mesmerizing star of Foyle's War.
Even Anna finally melts and dissolves into tears while listening to Richard’s soul-baring monologue delivered with such pathos by Michael Kitchen.
A favorite scene of yours, I believe, KT?
Wishing you a perfectly lovely day.
You don’t know how many times I’ve tried to figure out what he said and now I know! Now what does he mean in the statement of “Admittedly to a woman who would remix the DNA given half a chance?” Thanks for posting!!
My pleasure. Love that self-deprecating line. Viv Reid may have been reluctant to have a child by Richard, but based on this speech, I have a feeling she won’t be regretting her decision.
After thinking about your reply, which at first didn’t make sense, I’m getting it. A lot of baggage wrapped up in those thirteen words. Thanks!
I’m pretty sure all Richard’s saying is that no woman would want her child inheriting his character traits. He’s being a bit hard on himself, if you ask me.
We know for sure he wanted a family and we know him nor Viv weren’t using birth control. Why we don’t know or even if he told Viv he was going to marry her. I think she thought so, until she told him she was pregnant. I think he wished the baby was Anna’s DNA.
Viv made it clear that she was only interested in a casual affair with Richard. She had no desire to marry him or wreck his marriage. And he says she wants to remix the DNA, not he.
Loved the “can fart and smile at the same time” line! One can really feel for Crane.
Thank you, Kitchenfoyle, it’s by far and away my favourite speech. I’ve always wondered who came up with idea of holding down the speakerphone button with the diaper tab-pure genius.

Yes, the diaper tab is genius. I wonder if it was in the original script or if it came up during filming.
Hope you’re feeling better today, KT. Not a fun way to spend one’s birthday.
Whatever it was, I always have chalked it up to the fact that the British are far superior in their humor and screen writing than their cousins across the pond.
Thanks. You’re right. I just reread the line. Don’t know why the comments are getting out of order.
Would’ve been nice if he and Anna had a child together, but would it have saved their marriage?
Yes, there seems to be a problem with replies to comments nesting correctly.
It would have been nice, but I just don’t think Anna was at that place or maybe never. I had trouble figuring her out.
